St Philip's School

Sport

Competitive sport has always been a strong feature of life at St. Philip’s, and all boys take part at their own level of ability. The main sports are:

  • Michaelmas Term – association football
  • Lent Term – rugby and hockey
  • Trinity Term - cricket

In addition to this all boys swim once per week at Fulham Pools with specialist coaches, and take part in cross-country and athletics in due season. They may also take part in judo and fencing.

Games take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. We are fortunate to hold a stake in the Barn Elms Sports Trust, and the boys benefit from several acres of manicured and irrigated playing pitches that include covered grass wickets as well as purpose-built changing rooms and a tea pavilion.

First team and under-eleven fixtures against other schools in cricket, rugby, hockey and football have produced a rich heritage of triumph and disaster, but always interest.

We are fortunate to have a delightful garden to the rear of the property that allows the boys to play safely three times daily. Two state-of-the-art table-tennis tables receive heavy use.
